Thermal properties of Epon 862 were increased with the addition of carbon nanofibers – but only if the carbon nanofibers were heat treated.

Note: The sample labeled SF-PR is a carbon nanofiber that has been oxidized.
Top left chart: Modulus properties of nanocomposite as a function of nanofiber weight %.
Top right chart: Thermal conductivity properties of nanocomposites as a function of nanofiber weight %. Again only the incorporation of a heat treated CNF increased the thermal conductivity while using a PS grade remained similar to the thermal conductivity of the Epon 862.
Bottom left table: Thermal properties of nanocomposites with 4 weight % of nanofiber. Thermal properties of Epon 862 were increased only for the heat treated CNF composite. Heat capacity data (Cp) does not seem to follow the rule of mass fractions between nanofibers and resins.
Bottom right table: Mechanical data of nanocomposites with 4 weight % carbon nanofibers. Data shows that the mechanical properties of the neat resin can be increased with the incorporation of 4 weight % of any of the nanofibers studied.
